SWACHHATA HI SEVA 2023

      The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign is observed every year under the guidance of the GoI. This year the campaign was carried out on a massive scale with the involvement of different ministries and departments. A nationwide inauguration of SHS 2023 was held on 15th September 2023 and concluded on the 2nd of October 2023. In a similar fashion, the inauguration of SHS 2023 in the State of Mizoram was conducted by Project Management Unit (PMU), PHED on 15th September in frontyard of Vanapa Hall. The program was lead by Er. H. Duhkima, Program Director, PMU and the campaign was inaugurated by Er. C. Lalremsiama, Secretary, PHE Department., who also flagged off Swachhata rally after the inauguration program. 


      As the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen program is taken up by PHE Department, the SHS fortnight is observed in different villages in all the Districts in the form of shramdaan, mass mobilizations and the like.
The different activities wherein the people participated are focused around the SHS 2023 theme of “Garbage Free India”.

A. Shramdaan [21st September to 2nd October 2023]:
a.	Cleanliness of river sites and water front
b.	Cleanliness of legacy waste site
c.	Cleanliness of tourist/iconic spots
d.	Cleanliness of public places like markets, community hall etc.
e.	Cleanliness of Bus or Sumo stands
f.	Cleanliness of Institutional buildings like anganwadi, schools, VC Houses,            PHC, CHC etc.
g.	Cleanliness of CSC
h.	Cleanliness of water bodies
i.	Cleaning of garbage vulnerable sites (places where people usually dump      garbage)
j.	Others (to be specified)

B.	Repair/Painting/Branding of SBM-G Assets [25th to 29th September 2023]:
a.	Litter bins
b.	Public toilets
c.	Segregation sheds
d.	Compost Pits
e.	PWMU
f.	CSC

C.	Mass Mobilization [21st September to 2nd October 2023]:
a.	Swachhata Pledge
b.	Swachhata Run
c.	Swachhata Rally

a.	Soak pit construction

        This years’ SHS activities were carried out by 26,698 from a different Gram Panchayat total population of 525,435 persons, which can be considered as 5.08% participation. The number of activities recorded during this SHS 2023 fortnight totals to 518 activities.
	
       As per the instructions of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, out of all the activities observed in the villages, best two activities were selected daily and this selection was based on the selection of the activity, participation percentage according to the village population, duration of activity and on portrayal of the activities through the images shared. The details of activities are uploaded and shared daily by the District Co-ordinators on the SHS 2023 portal as well as on Google Drive respectively. Selection of the best two activities is done by the State Hqrs. Which is then shared with the Ministry. Among all the reports of activities from the Districts, upon summary, it was found that Aizawl District had the most frequent selection of daily best activities.
      
      On 1st October 2023, Narendra Modi, the hon’ble Prime Minister of India, initiated a nationwide cleanliness drive “Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta” at 10:00 am for a duration of 1 hour. As this day fell on a Sunday and the time being the Church service hour of all Christians across the State, this cleanliness drive was participated by communities that are not bound by this practise such as the Chakma community and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. 
In addition, armed forces within the State in different Districts were also engaged in this drive within and around their enclosure. This nationwide cleanliness drive saw a successful participation from the State of Mizoram from 58 locations and 2041 participants. The finale of the SHS 2023 fortnight, Swachhata Diwas was held on the 2nd of October 2023, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Even on this day, shramdaan was conducted in various places all across the State. 

      The PHE Department expresses its heartfelt gratitude towards all the people who participated in the activities with dedication. May the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi come to fruition by achieving a nation that is free from garbage as there is health in a clean environment!
